Agartala, Oct 30 (UNI) Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) GSG Ayyangar has appealed to the Sub-Divisional Magistrates (SDMs) to complete special summary revision of Photo Electoral Rolls on time.
Mr Ayyangar discussed the strategy of the Commission to achieve cent per cent Electoral Photo Identity Card (EPIC) in a meeting with the SDMs yesterday.
After attending the meeting at Circuit House, an official of the Election department said the CEO had asked the SDMs to finish the works expeditiously. Dr Ayyangar also directed the SDMs to hold meeting with Booth Level Officer (BLO) as early as possible to take stock of the electoral works. The Commission had the plan to conduct the Assembly polls in last week of February or first week of March.
District Magistrate (West district) Kishore Ambuly also had a meeting with leaders of political parties and SDMs to review the poll related preparation including ongoing process of revision of electoral rolls. He also sought cooperation from political parties to ensure an 'error free' electoral roll.
The Commission had already published a draft electoral roll on October 26. According to that, the total number of electorate was 19, 96,196 which was about 9500 less than the previous final electoral rolls. The final photo electoral roll would be published on January 2, 2008 and the next Assembly elections conducted on the basis of that electoral roll.
