Urdu council urges Manipur to establish Urdu Academy

Imphal, Oct 29 (UNI) Director of National Council for Promotion of Urdu Language Javed Ali has urged Manipur government to establish an Urdu Academy and introduce Urdu as a part of the school curriculi.

Speaking at a three-day seminar on ''Impact of Mir Taqi Mir on Urdu poetry'', which ended yesterday, Dr Javed Ali said the delegates have asked Manipur Governor S S Sidhu and have received his assurance on setting up of an Urdu department in the Manipur University to promote Urdu.

Dr Ali said the seminar resolved to urge the Manipur government to introduce Urdu language in primary, elementary and high schools of the State. The seminar also recommended that the government should take up steps for translation of Urdu and Manipuri works so that both language can benefit from each other.

Dr Ali claimed there was a large number of Urdu scholars in Manipur and the seminar has been fruitful.
