Renaming of Lohia Path: SP leaders meet Governor
Lucknow, Oct 29 (UNI) A delegation of the Principal Opposition Samajwadi Party (SP) today handed over a memorandum to Uttar Pradesh Governor T V Rajeswar to denounce the efforts of the Mayawati government to rename the four-lane Lohia Path.
The memorandum stated ''the removal of the board on the Lucknow-Faizabad highway was shameful and an insult to a great leader and veteran freedom fighter Dr Ram Manohar Lohia.'' The SP leaders demanded that the Governor should direct the state government to complete all pending work on the Lohia Path on a priority basis.
Earlier this morning, state Cabinet Secretary Shashank Shekhar Singh had denied plans to rename the four-lane Lohia Path, which was constructed by the previous Mulayam Singh Yadav government.
''The removal of road signs was in progress to add more details...we respect all icons of the society and there are no plans to rename Lohia Path,'' he added.
