Jalvera (Fatehagarh Sahib), Oct 29 (UNI) Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal today announced that a world class professional university would soon be set up at Fatehgarh Sahib to impart hi-tech quality education at par with renowned educational institutions across the globe.
Presiding over a function to award scholarships to the meritorious students of the Canadian Institute of International Studies (CIIS) here at its campus, Mr Badal said the University would focus on imparting education in post modern technologies such as Nano-technology, Bio-technology, Information Technology and Business Management.
The Chief Minister said the Cabinet had already approved the establishment of Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University to be set up by Shiromani Gurdwara Parbhandak Committee. The University would also house the faculties of the Schools of Emerging Technologies, Basic Sciences, Management, Social Sciences, Arts, Languages, Engineering, Architecture, Law and Social Justice.
Emphasising the importance of the quality education, Mr Badal lamented and described the gross neglect of education and human resource development in the country's planning as an 'alarming trend' which could inflict long term damage on the nation's overall development and progress.
He said it was now high time to make concerted efforts to revamp the entire system according to the emerging trends worldwide in the changing scenario.
On the occasion, Mr Badal gave away the scholarship awards for the year 2007, worth Rs 2 crore, in the memory of late Ms Ranjit Kaur Sandhu to the meritorious student of CIIS.
