Jaipur, Oct 29: President Pratibha Devisingh Patil inaugurated the 12th World Lake Conference--TAAL 2007--here this moring. Rajasthan Governor Shilendra Kumar Singh, Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje, Union Minister of State for Environment and Forest Namo Narain Meena, Director General of the International Lake Environment Committee, Planning Commission Member VL Chopra and a galaxy of environmentalists from all over the world were among others present on the occasion.
About 700 delegates from 60 countries are participating in the five-day long conference.
The conference is aimed at discussing ways in which lakes can be conserved. Japan has sent the largest delegation, comprising 60 delegate experts, followed by China (30) and Holland (12) to attend the event.
It is for the first time that this conference is being held in South Asia. It will provide a unique platform for interaction between scientists, researchers, technologists and policy makers from different parts of the world, Mr Meena said.
