Mumbai, Oct 29 (UNI) Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) in collaboration with the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport undertaking (BEST) is launching a special tour of museums in Mumbai from November 3.
The bus will start from the Gateway of India and take tourists to five out of the six important museums -- Mani Bhavan Gandhi Sanghrahalay, Ballard Bunder Gate House, RBI Monetary Museum, Bhau Daji Lad Museum, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastusanghralay, and Jehangir Art Gallery.
The initiative is first of its kind where history of the nation, state and the city will be revealed to domestic and foreign tourists by organising a specially designed guided tour.
Addressing a press conference here today, Tourism Minister Vijaysinh Mohite-Patil said Mumbai is rich in art and heritage which enhances the cultural value of India. These museums are a testimony to the priceless wealth of the country. This excursion is a perfect platform for art lovers to explore their passion.
Minister of State for Tourism Suresh Shetty said city tours on the specially designed bus will be planned soon. He also said that museum tours bus in Pune will also be started soon.
MTDC will pay a rent of Rs 3000 per day to BEST to conduct the museum tours twice a day. Fares for tourists will be inclusive of guide and entry charges to all the five museums. Indian adults will have to pay Rs 200 each and foreigners will have to pay Rs 500.
Children in the age group of three to 12 years will have to pay Rs 100 each.
Depending on the weekly off for the museums, five museums will be covered in the tour on different days. Bhau Daji Lad Museum is closed on Wednesdays, RBI Monetary Museum is closed on Sundays and public holidays, while Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya is closed on Mondays.
