Mumbai, Oct 29 (UNI) Maulana Azad Vichar Manch activists today demanded immediate dismissal of Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi and imposition of President's rule in the state in the wake of Tehelka revelations.

Hundreds of activists of the Manch assembled at the historic Azad Maidan here and beat up an effigy of Modi with footwear.

The activists attempted to ''hang'' the effigy but the police intervened and prevented them from doing so. At this, the activists began thrashing the effigy. The police later seized the effigy.

Manch president and former minister Hussain Dalwai said that the Union Government should take cognizance of the Tehelka expose and the whole case be handed over to the CBI. He also demanded that Mr Modi should be booked under MCOCA.

Sadiq Khan, the Manch's Mumbai unit president, said that even if it is assumed that the expose has no legal sanctity, the democratic system demands that criminal proceedings should be initiated against Mr Modi.
