Contai, Oct 29 (UNI) Trinamool Congress Supremo Mamata Banerjee today demaded a CBI inquiry into yesterday's alleged firing on her vehicle near Tekhali bridge while she was on her way to Nandigram.
Talking to mediapersons here Ms Banerjee said, ''I emphatically say that CPI(M) hoodlums fired on my car and I have the empty bullet case recovered from the area.'' She also sought an inquiry into the incident of bomb making allegedly by CPI(M) hoodlums in Sherkhan Chak area, where an explosion killed four of them and injured three others.
Ms Banerjee further demanded that the border between Khejuri and Nandigram be sealed under the Centre's supervision to restore peace in the area.
''Unlike Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee, I want peace to be restored both in Khejuri and Nandigram. There should be no more bloodshed in these areas. I appeal to all the intellectuals across the country to stand by the affected people in these areas,'' the Trinamool supremo said.
Asked why she was not responding to the chief minister's call for a political solution to the Nandigram issue, she retorted, ''I am the last person to participate in peace talk with Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee.
''I went to Jyoti Babu's resident on his invitation. I even met the Prime Minister on this issue. I have tried all the options but I will not talk to the killer of democracy,'' Ms Banerjee added.
She also alleged that the CPI(M) activists had blocked Nandigram and did not allow her to enter the village.
''However I will try my best to enter Nandigram after 1800 hours, when the CPI(M)-sponsored bandh ends,'' she informed.
