Weighty troubles: woman bedridden for years in UAE

Dubai, Oct 28 (UNI) A 55-year-old mother of ten in the UAE has been bedridden for years due to her staggering weight problem.

Wasfiya Hassoun who lives in Abu Dhabi has been bedridden for four years after her weight ballooned to 400 kg.

A diet of labneh-- a type of yogurt, cheese and bread made her pile on weight. She suffers from high blood pressure, diabetes and breathing problems.

''I have been a prisoner of these walls for four years,'' Hassoun from Lebanon who has lived in the UAE since 1976 and has eight daughters and two sons told the Emirates Today daily.

Treatment costs 1,000 dirham a month-- a big chunk of her husband's 4,500 dirham earnings as a newspaper typesetter.
