Sumitra for development aid as tool for reducing poverty
New Delhi, Oct 28 (UNI) BJP Lok Sabha member Sumitra Mahajan today urged the Commonwealth nations to urgently form a study group to look into the issues related to the flow of development assistance as a poverty reduction strategy.
''Commonwealth Parliamentary Association can play a major role in terms of directing the outflow of development aid, and can also facilitate identification of complementaries that exist across the member countries for ensuring optimal returns on development expenditure,'' she said at the Association's meeting in Ottawa, Canada.
She said working on development assistance would help in enhancing the role of the organisation for achieving the objectives in the realm of economic and social betterment.
''The CPA should urgently form a sub-committee to look into issues related to the flow of development assistance and the role of Parliaments in the Commonwealth regions,'' she said, according to a press release here.
