Farmers urge Centre to establish export zone for banana

Tiruchirapalli, Oct 28 (UNI) The Tamil Nadu Horticultural Crops Producers Association has urged the Centre to establish an export zone for banana and floriculture here.

In a memorandum to Union Minister of State for Commerce Jairam Ramesh, a copy of which was released to press here, Association President Puliyur A Nagarajan said Tiruchirapalli and its surrounding areas were known for banana cultivation and floriculture.

The farmers, who were engaged in banana cultivation, were not getting right price for their produce.

An export zone here for banana and flowers would help the farmers to get better price, he added.
