Jaipur, Oct 28 (UNI) The Centre has asked all state governments to set up the Lake and Wetland Development Authority in their respective states to ensure proper conservation and development of lakes and wetlands, Union Minister of State for Environment Namo Narain Meena said today.

''The state level bodies will be headed by Chief Secretary of the respective state,'' the Minister said.

Mr Meena said some of the states like Karnataka had already set up the authority while Rajasthan was contemplating for the same.

The Minister said most of the lakes and wetlands in the country needed proper care and action for conservation, augmentation and development. There are around 2,200 natural lakes and about 65,000 man-made lakes in the country.
