About 99.40 pc voters cast votes in KZSDUS election
Kolhapur, Oct 28 (UNI) About 99.40 per cent voters exercised their franchise for the election of board of directors of Kolhapur Zilla Sahakari Dudh Utpadak Sangh (KYSDUS), polling for which was held here today.
There are 58 candidates in the fray for the 18-member board of directors. However, the main tussle is between the Congress and its ally the NCP-Jansurajya party, supported by Peasants and Workers Party (PWP), election sources said.
The voting was peaceful and without any untoward incident. The counting of votes will be held here tomorrow, sources added.
The KZSDUS, known for its Gokul brand of milk, has an annual turnover of about Rs 550 crore. It is one of the leading milk collecting units in Maharashtra located in the district. It was governed by the Congress for the last many years.
The outcome of the election is eagerly awaited in the co-operative and political circles of western Maharashtra.
