New Delhi, Oct 28 (UNI) The CPI today deplored as ''opportunism'' the attempts by the JD (S) to install a BJP-led government in Karnataka, and said it would add to communal tension in the State.
''The attempt... is a serious and unfortunate development. It has for the first time opened the door for the BJP to get a foothold in the southern states,'' The CPI Central Office said in a statement here.
''It will add to communal tension in Karnataka, where in the past the BJP and VHP have made several attempts to inject the communal poison, and about which only a few days ago, the JD (S) leadership had charged the BJP with wanting to repeat a Gujarat in Karnataka,'' it said.
The CPI said the several twists and turns that the JD (S) indulged in were a record in opportunism.
''The plea that it had to join hands with a communal party to prevent a split in the JD (S) will hardly wash with anyone,'' the statement said.
