Manipur Film office gutted in fire at Imphal

Imphal, Oct 28: At least 20 shops, including the Manipur Film Development Corporation (MFDC) office, were completely destroyed in a fire at the Palace Gate here.

Fire brigade personnel said here today that no one was injured in the fire that broke out at one of the shops yesterday.

The fire gradually engulfed the neighbouring shops and later it spread to the MFDC office, the sources added.

MFDC Managing Director Sobita and other officials today inspected the office and informed that all the equipment, editing centre, expensive cameras, office documents, computers and furniture were completely destroyed in the fire which spread rapidly as it was a wodden structure.

The office of the Directorate and Information and Public Relations was also slightly damaged in the fire.

The officials said they were unhappy with the delay in sending the fire brigade personnel as it was only about a kilometre away and they were facing shortage of water.

Police also rushed a team to control the irate mob.

Officials said the exact estimates of the losses were not yet calculated, however, it could run into crores.

Meanwhile, the fire brigade personnel were still working till this morning to douse the flames.
