Chennai, Oct 27: The Tamil Nadu all Cooperatives Fair Price Shops Employees Association will observe a day's fast in Permbalur on November 25 to press their demands.
The fast, to be held in front of the District Collectorate, would be inaugurated by PMK President and Association patron G K Mani.
Mor than 25,000 salesmen and 8,000 packagers working in fair price shops across the state would participate in the fast, Association President C Sakthivel told reporters here yesterday.
He said the fast was to draw the government's attention to the threats issued by some anti-social elements to Joint Registrars and Deputy Registrars of Cooperative Socieites to meet their personal obligations.
This led to frequent transfers of salesman and packagers, affecting the functioning of the shops.
He said the government should take action against the anti-socials and ensure smooth functioning of the authorities.
A representation to this effect was also sent to the Chief Minister's cell, he added.
He thanked the Tamil Nadu government for hiking the salaries of salesmen and packagers and said it would benefit 35,000 employees.
