Manipur govt to take action on organisations calling bandh
Imphal, Oct 27 (UNI) The Manipur government has decided to take action against those calling bandhs and economic blockades in the state, officials here today said.
Official sources said state Chief Secretary Jarnail Singh has appealed all the organisations not to call blockades as adversely affects the common man and causes heavy economic losses.
Governor S S Sidhu had recently summoned Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh to discuss the law and order situation and the spate of killings and bandhs in the state.
The Chief Minister had also discussed the issue with the Chief Secretary and DGP Y Joykumar.
Officials further said the government might initiate even invoke the National Security Act (NSA) against those calling bandhs.
The Supreme Court had also passed an order to take actions against the agitators and demonstrators.
At present an indefinte economic blockade has been called at the two national highways of Manipur, NH 39 and 53 by the Thadou Students' Association demanding adequate teachers at Sadar Hills areas and Senapati district.
