New Delhi, Oct 27 (UNI) World Champion Manavjit Sandhu shot to glory and gold as he won the trap event at the Asian Clay Shooting championships at Manila.
The ace shooter, recipient of the prestigious Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award early this year, pipped Kuwait's Almudahf Khaled in the tie-shoot after the two had ended with identical score of 138.
According to information received here, Manavjit was joint second with 118 points after the qualifying rounds while Khaled led with 120 points. But, the Indian had a superb final round of 20 while Khaled shot only 18 which led to the stalemate.
And to end the deadlock, tie-breaker was enforced in which the Indian hit two bird while his rival shot one.
The Delhi-based shooter was joint second with compatriots Zorawar Singh Sandhu (118+19) and Anwer Sultan (118+17), who eventually finished fourth and fifth in the competition.
Singapore's Lee Wang Yew was unlucky to be placed third.
He was the highest scorer with 21 points in the final round but his poor score in qualifying where he had only 116 points proved to be his undoing.
In the women's section, India's Shagun Chowdhry finished last in the final with the scores of 75 (60+15). China's Zhou Mei won the gold by scoring 86 (67+19) while Japan's Keiko Suzu 83 (62+21) claimed the silver. China's Ma Huike 82 (65+17) finished third.
