Man held for stealing Rs 9 lakh from grandmother in Kashmir

Srinagar, Oct 27 (UNI) The Jammu and Kashmir Police today claimed to have arrested a person who had stolen Rs nine lakh and gold ornaments from his aged grandmother.

Amina Begum, a resident of Vicharnag, Nowshera in downtown Srinagar, had lodged a report with the Soura police station on October 24 evening about burglary in her house.

In her report, Ms Amina Begum said she had gone in the neighbourhood to attend a function and on her return she found three tin boxes containing cash, gold ornaments and shawls missing.

Police registered a case and started investigations.

During the course of investigations, police recovered the three tin boxes along with clothes from Illahi Bagh. However, cash and golden ornaments were still not recovered.

Police then called Umar Mushtaq, a grandson of the complainant, for questioning on October 26.

During questioning, Mushtaq confessed to his involvement in the crime, police said, adding Rs 8,70,990 and gold bangles were subsequently seized on his instance. The accused has been arrested.
