MADRID, Oct 27 (Reuters) Sevilla have promoted Manuel Jimenez from the youth team to replace Juande Ramos as coach until the end of the season, the Primera Liga club said today.
Ramos, who led the club to back-to-back UEFA Cup triumphs over the last two seasons, unilaterally rescinded his contract yesterday, paving the way for a probable move to take over the vacant position at Tottenham Hotspur.
The 43-year-old Jimenez is a former Spain and Sevilla left back, and made 354 league appearances for the Andalucian outfit over 14 seasons as a player.
He has coached Sevilla Atletico for over seven years and been a central figure in helping develop the club's impressive stock of home-grown talent.
Jimenez took charge of training this morning and makes his Primera Liga debut at home to Valencia today.
Sevilla are 11th in the standings with nine points from seven games.
