Mr Prakash, who has been authorised by his party to hold discussions, is understood to have discussed the matter with top Congress leader Ahmed Patel and others last night, JD(S) sources said.
Mr Prakash, however, said he had yet to meet with the Congress leaders and he would be able to speak only after his meetings.
The state Assembly has been kept under suspended animation after the pact between the BJP and the JD(S) fell apart and the former withdrew its support.
The Congress, on the other hand, feels that no final decision can be taken until the return of party president Sonia Gandhi from her ongoing China visit.
