Kancheepuram, Oct 27 (UNI) The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Tamil Nadu Police arrested the former secretary of Kottaikadu Primary Agriculture Cooperative Bank on the charges of embezzlement.
Police said R Kanniappan who worked as the secretary of the bank between 1997 and 2001 had cheated the institution to the tune of Rs four lakh.
Based on a complaint from Madurantakam Cooperative Association Assistant Registrar P Narayanasami, a search was launched for Kanniappan (50) who was absconding.
Police then received information he was hiding near the Madurantakam Bus Stand following which a police team rushed to the place and arrested the culprit.
A local court then remanded him in custody. He was lodged in the Puzhal Prison in Chennai today.
