Ban on select channels continues for the second day
Ahmedabad, Oct 27 (UNI) Ban on airing of select news channels continued for the second day today even as the Election Commission said that it had not ordered the blocking of these channels.
The ban was imposed by the District Election Officer of Ahmedabad and the District Collector yesterday as a ''precautionery measure'' in view of the channels telecasting developments after the Tehelka expose in which Chief Minister Narendra Modi was accused of supporting the rioteers in 2002 following the Godhra carnage.
English and Hindi news channels of Aaj Tak, NDTV and CNN-IBN have been banned, but the business channels of NDTV and IBN group are being aired by the cable operators.
Cable operators had stopped the transmission of the news channels on Thursday evening, an hour earlier to the broadcast of the Tehelka expose on the post-Godhra riots, citing the reason of a ''technical snag''.
