Tirupati, Oct 26 (UNI) Trade unions would face difficulties in fulfilling the needs of workers if they are linked to political parties, South Central Railway Mazdoor Union (SCRMU), General Secretary Ch Shankara Rao said today.
Mr Rao, who was here as a part of the union election campaign in Chittoor district, said the SCRMU, established in 1924, was not linked to any poltical party.
Welcoming the Railway Minister's decision to conduct a 'Secret Ballot', from November 26 to 28, 2007, he claimed that the SCRMU, with a strength of 85,000 members would secure the top position in the ensuing elections.
The SCRMU was fighting against outsourcing and privatisation of certain departmental activities.
He said that the Union would intensify the agitation if the 'Sixth Pay Commission' was not implemented on or before February next year.
