Tirupur, Oct 26(UNI) The Tirupur Exporters Association (TEA) today thanked Union Minister for Commerce and Industry Kamal Nath for his communication to the EU Trade Commissioner regarding a 'disinforation labour of' campaign by NGOs against garment exporters in India.
A TEA press release said the Minister had written to the EU Trade Commissioner Peter Mandelson and the Dutch Foreign Minister to counter the NGO campaign. He cautioned that the campaign could pressuris the Indian government to restrict imports from the EU.
TEA President A Sakthivel said the Union Minister's strong support and help would certainly boost the morale of Indian businessmen.
He said a few unscrupulous organisations here were conducting the campaign against exports garment units in Tirupur thereby affecting the Indian economy.
Mr Sakthivel requested to the minister to take necessary steps to probe the source of funds received by these NGOs from abroad and also their end use.
