Media should protest against channels blackout in Guj: Tejpal
New Delhi, Oct 26 (UNI) Tehelka's Editor-in-Chief Tarun Tejpal today said the media must come together in protest against the Gujarat government's reported blackout in some parts of the state, of channels, airing the Tehelka sting operation on communal violence in 2002.
''If that has happened, it is the black day for the media. We must protest it and it shows that the political power in the country is increasingly becoming unfair about public opinion,'' he told reporters here.
Lambasting
the
BJP
for
terming
the
sting
as
orchestrated
by
the
Congress
and
BJP
dissidents,
he
said:
''We
have
also
carried
out
similar
cover
stories
on
the
Congress
like
the
one
on
1984
riots
and
Jessica
Lal
case
after
which
Manu
Sharma's
father
Vinod
Sharma,
a
former
Congress
leader
had
to
resign.''
About
BJP's
imputing
motives
on
the
timing
of
the
sting
operation
,
he
said:
''Journalists
do
not
take
timing
into
account
and
we
will
put
out
a
story
whenever
we
have.
And
what
has
come
ahead
of
elections,
will
help
voters
decide
who
to
cast
a
vote
for.''
