Mumbai, Oct 26 (UNI) Armed with voluminous documents obtained under the Right to Information Act, fire-brand activist and Narmada Bachao Andolan leader Medha Patkar today alleged mass scale manipulation and corruption in the sale of Jupiter Mills' land to Indiabulls, and called for cancellation of the whole deal, along with an inquiry by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

Addressing the media, along with IPS turned lawyer Y P Singh and consumer activist Kewal Semani, Ms Patkar, in her characteristic tone said, ''It is a must to expose this illegal and fraudulent deal. And in the interest of economic and social justice, we demand that the sale of Jupiter Mills be cancelled and the entire plot be put on re-auction.'' According to Ms Patkar, a notice in this regard has already been served to the National Textiles Corporation on October 16, which owned the 11 acres of land prior to it being sold out to Indiabulls in July 2005.

Alleging that certain specific laws were violated right from the tender bidding stage, Ms Patkar said that when NTC issued tenders for the sale of the land, it declared in the tender form that the Floor Square Index (FSI) will be about 59,903 sq ft or 6.4 lakh sq ft.

''Based on this, Indiabulls placed a bid of Rs 276 crores for an FSI of 6.4 lakh sq ft. However, once the Mill was taken over by Indiabulls, the FSI got doubled to 2.66, and the actual FSI which is being claimed is more than 11 lakh sq feet. The current market rate in the Parel area (where the land is situated) is about Rs 30,000 per sq ft. This rate is for the super-built area, which is about 1.5 times of the FSI,'' she alleged.
