panic
after
it
developed
"musth" and

restive.
Hindu Religious and Endownment Department Deputy Commissioner and Executive Officer of the temple Ashok said with the help of specialised veterinarians, the pachyderm was ranquilised.
Mr Ashok said the elephant developed musth in early September this year and was under constant observation. To prevent the animal from turning violent, a female elephant was kept adjacent to the troubled animal. The chains already used to tie the elephant were replaced with new ones, as a precautionary measure, he added.
He said the 19-year-old elephant developed musth a couple of years ago and it was controlled in time.
