Bangalore, Chandigarh, Amrtisar schools record contrasting wins

New Delhi, Oct 26 (UNI) Jujhar Singh scored a brace as Springdale, Amritsar, blanked SS school, Khunti, Jharkhand 4-0 in their opening Super league match of the 25th Nehru Sub Junior hockey tournamenmt here today.

In the other two matches of the day, Army Boys Sports Coys, Bangalore waged a grim battle to down BGS Uttam Singh school, Khadoor Sahib (Punjab) 2-1 while Government Model school, Chandigarh, overpowered NCC Directorate 3-1.

Springdale displayed attacking game against the former champions from Jharkhand and led 2-0 at half time. Jujhar Singh put Amritsar School ahead in the 11th minute and then Kunwar Subeg Singh converted a penalty corner in the 20th minute to increase the lead.

Jujhar again struck in the 37th minute to make it 3-0 while seven minutes later Ramandeep Singh scored off a penalty corner to complete the tally.

In the first match of the day, Army Boys, Bangalore, trailed 0-1 till the 51st minute and then scored two goals in a space of seven minutes to score an upset win and claimed full points in their first super league outing.

Khadoor Sahib boys surged ahead in the 24th minute through Loverpreet Singh who converted a penalty corner. After that they muffed some good chances to consolidate their lead.

Bangalore boys staged a fine rally in the second session and drew parity through Anthony Jesu in the 51st minute and seven minutes later Ansaleen Hemrom scored the second goal which turned out to be the winner.

In a slow paced second tie of the day, Government Model School led 2-0 at lemon break against NCC Directorate. Kiramjeet Singh (14th), Kanwaldeep Singh (23rd), Gurjant Singh (40th) scored for the winners. Prem Singh (48th) reduced the margin for the losers.
