Patna, Oct 25: Former Bihar Chief Minister and senior JD(U) leader Dr Jagannath Mishra today said the responsibility of United Nations(UN) has increased manifold in the unipolar world.

Speaking during a panel discussion here on the occasion of UN Day, Dr Mishra said the ambiguous foreign policy of the United States has resulted in the American invasion on Iraq, bypassing the UN and America was now targeting Iran, posing a threat to peaceful co-existence in the world.

Mr Mishra maintained ''war is never a solution rather a problem in itself''. The way the US is trying to impose its dominance in world politics and keep its hegemony unchallenged, it is only pushing the world towards further disorder, he stated.

''Peace cannot be maintained by force in the name of democracy,'' Mr Mishra added.

Professor A K Chaudhry a faculty member at Patna University, said in this era of so called liberal policies of liberalisation, privatisation and globalisation, the gap between ''Haves'' and ''Have nots'' has increased manifold.

Though the UN charter and its several resolutions passed at various stages talks about the welfare of common man, universal declaration of human rights and various other social benefits, it seems to be ineffective as there is no value for human life in the true sense, he said.

He alleged that the US was pursuing oil diplomacy in West Asia by targeting oil rich nations. He also alleged that the US military forces were trained for desert operations to control the oil producing countries in order to control the price hike of petroleum products as per its needs.

Dr Ratneshwar Mishra, a panelist was of the opinion that the US seemed to be a bigger name than the UN itself.
