Purulia on red alert after maoist-police face-off in Jharkhand

Purulia, Oct 25 (UNI) A red alert has been sounded in and around Purulia district after a 45-minute exchange of gunfire between the Maoist ultras and Jharkhand police at Patamda police station only five kms from the district border.

Purulia Superintendent of Police Ashok Kumar Prasad told UNI, ''The red alert has been clamped after East Singhbhum Superintendent of Police informed me about the gun-battle in Meghadaha forest in the district.'' According to the official sources, Jharkhand Police was engaged in a gun battle from 2000 hrs to 2045 hrs in the forest area only five kms from Bundwan border area of Purulia district.

Purulia district's Kuchia police station which is near the Jharkhand's East Singhbhum district border has been given a red alert too.
