New Delhi, Oct 25 (UNI) Music maestro Khayyam, whose evergreen compositions have mesmerised the audiences for generations, will be conferred this year's prestigious Lata Mangeshkar Award by Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh at a function here tomorrow.
The award, set up by the Maharashtra government, is an annual affair and comprises Rs one lakh, a memento and a citation.
Besides Mr Deshmukh, prominent political leaders from Maharashtra, including Union Home Minister Shivraj patil, New and Renewable Energy Minister Vilas Muttemwar, Minister of State for Home Manikrao Gavit and Maharashtra Cultural Affairs Minister Ashok Chavan will attend the function.
The evening would resonate with the presentation of immortal compositions of the illustrious music composer.
The function is organised by the Directorate of Cultural Affairs, Mumbai in cooperation with the Maharashtra Information Centre in the national capital.
The Maharashtra government has been giving away this prestigious award for the last 16 years.
