Hisar, Oct 25 (UNI) To curb the illegal practice of usage of electricity for other than the authorised purpose, the Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (DHBVN) has launched a voluntary disclosure scheme (VDS) for declaring the connections as per the actual use and getting their categories converted.

The VDS will remain in operation up to December 31, a DHBVN spokesman said today.

A Nigam spokesman said on voluntary declaration, the conversion of category would be considered as regularised with immediate effect, if the consumer had completed all required formalities.

He said the consumers desirous of declaring the connection as per its use may disclose on "Application and Agreement" form.

There would be no need to submit any fresh term and conditions forms or affidavits.

However, the consumer would give an undertaking that he would abide by all terms and conditions of power supply. The consumer would be required to deposit the consumption security and other charges at the new rates of the category of connection.

The spokesman said that the use of electricity supply by consumers for the purpose other than authorised treated as theft of electricity under new electricity act. However, on voluntary disclosure by the consumers, no penalty would be imposed and the matter would be regularised.
