Chandigarh, Oct 25 (UNI) Rohtak MP Deepender Singh Hooda Rohtak today expressed his gratitude towards UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and the Central government for lifting ban on the export of non-basmati rice.

In a statement here, Mr Deepender Hooda said the decision would benefit the paddy growers to a great extent.

He said the paddy growers and the exporters were very disappointed after the imposition of ban. The exporters had stopped the purchase of paddy in the markets and the farmers had also started selling their crops at throw away prices.

He said the political parties like Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Indian National Lok Dal were shedding crocodile tears on the issue.

''In fact, it was their wish that the farmers and the traders become more annoyed on this issue and the ban should remain intact so that the farmers and the traders get attracted towards these parties,'' he said.

Mr Hooda said these parties never made any effort to settle this issue and they remained mere spectators almost for a week.

The Centre had provided a great relief to the exporters and the farmers by lifting the ban on the export of non-basmati rice, he said and added that purchase of paddy had started in the markets and the farmers were also getting remunerative prices of their produce.
