Imphal, Oct 25: The Centre for Organisation and Research (CORE) has asserted that the incidences of violence against women, including rape, molestation and other atrocities, are on the rise in Manipur.
In a statement here on Oct 24, the CORE said a widow was allegedly gang-raped by six men at Heirok part II in Thoubal district on October nine.
In another incident, a woman was seriously wounded by unidentified gunmen in front of her children at Lamphel Sanakeithel in Imphal West on October 22, the CORE added.
''Such violence will affect and traumatise our children and hamper the growth of the future generations,'' it stated.
The CORE strongly condemned such incidents of violence against women and demanded immediate arrest of the miscreants.
It alleged that such cases were occurring frequently as the state government and its law enforcement agencies were not performing their duties effectively.
''Many of the rapists and perpetrators are roaming scot-free. Such frequent incidents show that the state government has failed to safeguard the life and liberty of its the citizen, especially women and children,'' it stated.
