Mumbai, Oct 25 (UNI) The BEST Workers Union proposes to launch a week-long agitation from October 29 against alleged ''corruption, casteism, criminal manipulation and anti-commuters policy of BEST general manager Uttam Khobragade''.
Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) undertaking Union general secretary Sharad Rao, addressing a press conference here today, said from October 29 to November 4, about 2000 BEST employees will participate in the agitation daily.
The agitationists will urge the public to donate money by pleading ''De Dan Sute Grahan (Please donate to save BEST)'' and the money so collected will be handed over to Mr Khobragade on November 5 since he claims that BEST is running at loss, Mr Rao said.
A day-long ''dharna'' will also be organised at the Azad Maidan on November 5, Mr Rao said while stressing that during the week-long agitation, the BEST service will not be affected.
Mr Rao alleged that Mr Khobragade had tried to split the BEST Union but the employees had quashed the bid.
The Union has, meanwhile, appealed to the BEST employees' co-operative credit society chairman to give advance of Rs 5000 to each BEST member employee along with gift vouchers of Rs 1000 on the eve of Diwali festival.
