Two police officers dismissed for offering bribe

Bhubaneswar,Oct 24 (UNI) An Inspector of Police and another Sub- Inspector were dismissed from their post with immediate effect after being convicted by a court for offering bribe to a senior police officer.

According to vigilance sources, Inspector of Police posted at Jagatsinghpur, Nimain Charan Adhiya and Sub-Inspector Subhra Narayan Pattnaik posted at the Crime Branch in Cuttack were dismissed by the Director General of Police under the rules of police manual.

These two police officers were convicted by the Special Judge, Vigilance, Cuttack on September 29 on the charges that they offered bribe of Rs 10,000 to Crime Branch Superintendent of Police Manoj Chhabra.

Sources said Subhra Narayan Patnaik, the then Officer-in-Charge, Jaleswar Police Station had suppressed a rape case. Subsequently on public complaint a case was registered and Circle Inspector Nimain Charan Adhiya was asked to investigate the case.

Later on the case was transferred to Crime Branch, Cuttack for investigation and Crime Branch SP Manoj Chhabra supervised the case.

Mr Pattnaik and Mr Adhiya apprehending disclosure of their misconduct in suppressing of the rape case, approached Mr Chhabra to help them in the case during supervision and offered bribe of Rs 10,000 at I P S Mess in Cuttack.

They were caught red handed by the Vigilance Officers of Cuttack Division while offering bribe to Mr Chhabra.Both the police officers were later chargesheeted for offering bribe to an officer to get undue official favour .

They were convicted and sentenced to undergo rigorous imprisonment for six months and a fine of Rs 10,000 for the offence under section 12 of the Prevention of Corruption Act 1988.
