TADA court awards 39-yr RI to Pakistani militant

Jammu, Oct 24 (UNI) A local TADA court today sentenced a Pakistan national to 39-year Regorous Imprisonment (RI) for his active involvement in militancy in Jammu and Kashmir.

Sources said one Amjid Qureshi, a militant from Gujranwala (Pakistan), who was apprehended along with another accused, Mohd Shafi Lone, during an encounter with army during a search operation in 1994, was awarded 39-year (RI) after he was convicted under various sections of law.

The militant would have to concurrently undergo 10-year RI and Rs 5,000 fine each under section 3 and section 4 of TADA while was sentenced to seven-year RI and Rs 2500 fine under section 307 RPC; 10 years RI and Rs 5,000 fine under section 7/27 Arms Act and two years RI and Rs 2500 fine under section 2/3 of Egress and Internal Movement Control Ordinance, sources said.
