Octroi will abolish in Gujarat on November 15; EC

Gandhinagar, Oct 24 (UNI) The Election Commission (EC) has cleared the Narendra Modi Government's proposal to abolish the Octroi with effect from November 15.

Gujarat Chief Electoral Officer Vinod Babbar told UNI that the EC had cleared the implementation of the Gujarat government's decision to abolish Octroi from the Laabh Paancham (November 15), considered as an auspious day the state.

The decision taken by the Government and a Bill to this effect was approved during the Monsoon Session by the state Assembly.

After the announcment of Election date and Model Code of Conduct coming in force, there were speculations about the implementation of the decision. The uncertainty was further compounded with the statement of Chief Election Commissioner that the implementation was subject to clearance.

Mr Babbar said the state government had moved a proposal about the decision and its implementation and the EC had cleared it.
