NEHU awards honoris causa to Jacob, Schaefer

Shillong, Oct 24 (UNI) The North Eastern Hills University(NEHU) today awarded the degree of Doctor of Literature (Honoris Causa) to former Meghalaya Governor M M Jacob and the Degree of Doctor of Science to leading theoretical chemist Prof Henry F Schaefer III.

The award was handed over to M M Jacob at the 17th convocation by University Chancellor Prof Andre Beteille in presence of Chief Minister D D Lapang, senior government officials, academicians and students.

However, the award to Prof Henry F Schaefer III was presented in absentensia.

NEHU Vice-Chancellor Prof Pramod Tandon said the University conferred the Honoris Causa on Mr Jacob in recognition of his outstanding contribution in social work. Prof Schaefer III was awarded for his outstanding contribution in the field of quantum chemistry.
