JNNURM scheme raised awareness about urban poor: Selja
Dongergarh, Chhattisgarh, Oct 24 (UNI) Union Minister of State for Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation Kumari Selja today said the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) and the Integrated Housing and Slum Development Programme (IHSDP) have helped in raising an awareness towards uplift and welfare of urban poor.
She was addressing a function after laying the foundation stone for the construction of 200 houses to be constructed at a cost of Rs 258.28 lakh under the IHSDP scheme here in Rajnandgaon district.
She said the UPA government launched the maiden Rs 50,000 crore Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) under its Common Minimum Programme to reform 63 cities including mega cities, medium and small towns throughout the country in seven years.
These schemes were aimed at improving cities and towns to withstand increasing pressure of population growth accentuated by rural-to-urban exodus, she added.
