Imphal, Oct 24 (UNI) Manipur Governor S S Sidhu and Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh have expressed concern over increasing violence in the state, bordering Myammar.
The two leaders met yesterday and reviewed the overall situation as the crime graph was going up, official sources said today.
The Governor was not happy over the spurt of violence, particularly insurgency-related crimes, they added.
After meeting with the Governor, Mr Singh also had a series of meetings with Chief Secretary Jarnail Singh, DGP Y Joykumar and Principal Secretary BPO Warjri and ordered them to increase vigil.ed.
To combat the increasing trend of violence, local people in their respective areas formed joint action committee to fight the criminals and demanded that the government ensure right to life of individual and protection of the society.
Over two dozen militant groups operate in Manipur and the Central Government has deployed an entire division of army and a division of the Assam Rifles besides large numbers of BSF, CRPF, IRB personnel to combat militancy. The state police also have a strong police commando force to maintain the law and order situation.
