Congress demands 2nd language status for Bengali
Ranchi, Oct 24 (UNI) Jharkhand Pradesh Mahila Congress Committee (JPMCC) today staged demonstration at Birsa Chowk near the Assembly demanding a second language status for Bengali in the state.
A 31-member delegation also handed over a memorandum to Assembly Speaker Alamgir Alam in this regard.
JPMCC president Pratibha Pandey said Mr Alam had assured the delegation that he would advice Chief Minister Madhu Koda to make announcement in this regard on the statehood day on November 15.
Ms Pandey said they would also demonstrate at every district headquarter on November 5 where memorandums would be submitted to the deputy commissioner concerned addressing the Chief Minister.
''I will hold a fast unto death from November 20 if the government fails to fulfill the demand by November 15,'' she added.
