Agarwal takes charge tomorrow as Governor Rao completes his term

Gangtok, Oct 24 (UNI) Sikkim Governor V Rama Rao completes his eventful five-year term today. He will be replaced by Mr Sudarshan Agarwal, the former Governor of Uttarkhand.

Mr Agarwal was the Governor of Uttarkhand from 2003 before being given the charge of Sikkim.

The swearing-in of the new Governor will take place tomorrow at Raj Bhavan.

A final guard of honour will be presented to Mr Rao tomorrow morning by the ITBP jawans after which he will proceed towards his home town in Hyderabad, informed the Raj Bhavan spokesperson.

Governor Rao had taken charge of Sikkim on October 25, 2002 from Kedarnath Sahani.

In his five year term, the 71-year-old Rao had taken keen interest in rural development and Panchayati Raj system. He had visited almost all parts of Sikkim and interacted with the Panchayats and village people.

In an earlier interaction with mediapersons, Mr Rao said that Sikkim has a bright future and lots of developmental activities were taking place in the hilly state.
