Darbhanga, Oct 23 (UNI) Allies of United Progressive Alliance (UPA) today staged a dharna here in protest against the unnecessarily dragging of Union Minister of State for Human Resources Mohammad Ali Ashraf Fatmi's name in awarding a contract for killing the deputy mayor of Darbhanga municipal corporation.

Addressing the UPA workers sitting on dharna here, senior RJD leader and former Bihar minister Lalit Yadav alleged that Nitish Kumar government was trying to tarnish the image of Mr Fatmi by implicating him in the conspiracy hatched to kill deputy mayor Badrujamma Khan alias Bobby Khan.

Suspecting the role of District Police Superintendent in extracting the baseless statement from a person arrested in this connection, he demanded his immediate transfer.

Former Congress MLA Madan Mohan Jha alleged that Chief Minister Nitish Kumar was acting with political vendetta and demanded his resignation. ''If Mr Kuma fails to mend his ways on his own, people of the state would teach him lesson at an appropriate time'', he remarked.

A person arrested in this connection had allegedly named Mr Fatmi and others for awarding contract to kill Mr Khan. The plot, however, could not be executed as the persons engaged for killing the deputy mayor, was arrested before they could move ahead for the same.
