Three-day Cultural bonanza Kittur Utsav launched

Kittur, Karnataka, Oct 23 (UNI) The Kittur Utsav, the three-day cultural bonanza to celebrate the victory of brave queen Kittur Chennamma over the British Troops in 1824 was inaugurated here today.

During the three-day event the district administration had organised cultural events including folk dances, musical programmes and film festival at Kittur, the capital of the former princely state.

Queen Chennamma, had led her army against the mighty force of British and killed its military commander Thyackare in a fiercely fought war. Queen Chennamma was the first Indian ruler who defied Colonial warrants to submit to British monarchy and chose the path of rebellion and raised the banner of revolt against the mightiest forces.

In Bijapur also Vijayothsava was observed to commemorate the 184th anniversary of Kittur Rani's victory over British forces. A procession was also taken out by the activists of Karnataka Rakshana Vedike on the occasion.
