Teachers in Kashmir strike work over killing of colleague

Srinagar, Oct 23 (UNI) Teachers across Kashmir struck work today on the fourth day prayer ceremony of their colleague Abdul Rashid Mir, who was killed by the Army in Kupwara district on Friday.

Reports of peaceful protest demonstrations from several parts of the Kashmir valley have also been received.

Majority of schools across the Kashmir valley were closed in view of the strike.

Mir was killed by the Army on Friday at Marsari forests in Chowkibal area of Kupwara district when he was accompanying women colleagues to a school.

The Jammu and Kashmir government has ordered a thorough probe into the killing. A special investigation team has been formed to probe the incident.

The Army has regretted the incident and ordered a court of inquiry into the incident. A gunner has also been arrested in connection with the killing.
