Rajkot, Gujarat, Oct 23 (UNI) Saurashtra University Vice-Chancellor Kamlesh Joshipura has submitted his response to a notice issued by the Election Commission (EC) seeking clarification on why they had attended a function addressed by Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi at Atmya College on October 15.
The Vice-Chancellor clarified in a press release that he and Pro-Vice-Chancellor Kalpak Trivedi had not received notices but letters from the EC asking for details of the said programme.
Mr Joshipura further stated, ''From our side, we have sent our reply to the EC.'' ''The programme held at Atmya College was a private programme where no political activity had taken place. Being the head of Saurashtra University, I had addressed the students at the function,'' he added.
The EC notices (letters) had been served to the Vice-Chancellor and the Pro-Vice-Chancellor on October 18.
Notably, the October 15 function was videographed following a complaint from Congress leaders, who informed the Collector of the alleged violation of the model code of conduct at the said function, and a report was sent to the EC on the basis of the video recording.
