Orissa Museum to have grand Platinum jubilee celebration in Dec

Bhubaneswar, Oct 23 (UNI) The Orissa government will organise grand celebrations to mark the Platinum jubilee of the state museum in December.

Minister for Culture Suryanarayan Patro told newspersons here that the museum, which was shifted to Bhubaneswar from Cuttack during the 1960s, has records of all important events in the state -- from the rule of Kharvela till date -- and is considered one of the oldest museums in the country.

He said the platinum jubilee will be celebrated for three days beginning December 29. The entire museum would be given a face lift and the park in front of the museum would be redesigned .

Three new galleries would be added to the museum, which would be opened till 2100 hours for the visitors.

A preparatory meeting convened to celebrate the occasion today decided to organise a workshop and invite eminent artists, sculptors and archaeologists from all over the country to participate in the event, Mr Patro said.
