Jamshepdur, Oct 23 (UNI) Jharkhand Sports Minister Bandhu Tirkey today reasserted that the National Games would be held in the last week of February or the first week of March next year.
Talking to mediapersons here after inaugurating the 47th Natioinal Open Athletics Championship here,Mr Tirkey brushed aside all doubts that the National Games would be shifted to other state and reaffirmed that the games would be held in time and the preparaitons were going on in full swing.
He said the Jharkhand Olympics Association (JOA) had already formed committee for the National Games and sub committee would also be constitued soon. ''Several meetings were held with the Indian Olympics Association (IOA) and the JOA for conducting the National Games smoothly,'' the minister said.
Mr Tirkey said laying of synthetics tracks would be completed within two months time and the construction of other infrastructural facilites would also be completed in time.
He said apart from the state capital Ranchi some events would also be held in Jamshedpur and Dhanbad. He said the steel city here had already enough infrastructural facilities and seven disciplines, including archery and swimming would be organised here with the help of steel major Tata Steel.
To a question the minister said a sports hostel and an indoor stadium would be constructed here if the land was available.
